first off- happy friday! i dont know about you, but i feel like this week flew by. (not complaining!)
so last night i had the opportunity to attend the ellis gala preview party at the cyclorama courtesy of ted (allis brother) and bny mellon. i wasnt exactly sure what to expect but was excited to catch up with ted and hang out with two of my favorite gals!
getting there was an issue. seriously, uberx is awful these days guys. like, awful. my driver missed my building and got on the highway?! what?! how do you do that. then he didnt know how to cancel (and barely spoke english) so i got charged $10 and had to complain to customer service to get it back…. oh and i couldnt breathe in like any of the outfits i brought to work to change into, so you are going to get to see me in my black and white skirt… again… i swear i have more clothes.
i just dont fit in them.) thankfully once i made it to the event, i was greeted with champagne! all is once again right in the world.
the large space was filled with antiques, fine art, and jewelry. we spent the next two hours going in and out of each vendors space admiring all of the pretty things
we could not afford. here are some of my favorites:
obviously love the paining, but i equally love the frame!
i dont know exactly where this would hang in my studio, however.
there were lots of apps floating around, but since i had a huge lunch, i shockingly wasnt all that tempted to snack. that was, of course, until the oysters rockefeller came around…
you know what they say, time flies when youre
sipping champagne having fun, and pretty soon it was time to head over to our dinner reservation at boston chops (but not before taking a poorly lit group shot.)
i had never been to boston chops, which opened about a year ago (i think), but its def been on my to-do list. once we sat down, ted made the brilliant call that we should all start with a cocktail while we looked over the menu. my drink of choice: the el diabo fizz (tequila, cassis, lime & ginger beer.)
was definitely a fan of this wine, good work ted. we were all gabbing away and needed more time to look at the menu, but i made the executive decision that we should start with some wellfleet oysters.
so good. love wellfleets! i could have easily ate the whole dozen myself. next up was a delicious warm popover. love that they serve these instead of a traditional breadbasket. a little butter, a little salt. carbs always hit the spot.
finally, we were ready to order. steaks all around! the girls all got the 8oz filet mignons, chris got the 14oz bone in filet, and ted got…. i dont remember what ted got. maybe the prime rib?! hmph. anyways, we all got bearnaise sauce on the side. (i actually got the boston chops house sauce at first, but then changed my mind. give me that creamy deliciousness.) the gals were in charge of ordering the sides, and i think we did a pretty good job if i do say so myself. my choices:
onion rings with a spicy aioli (O.M.G.)
pork belly mac and cheese. (also O.M.G.)
i was too excited with my side dish choices to take pictures of the others, but allis choice was the sour cream & horseradish mashed potatoes and joc chose the spicy broccoli and grilled asparagus. (can you guess who the fat kid is in our group?
its me.) seriously though, everything was SO delicious. the potatoes had an awesome kick to it and i want to try and recreate the broccoli at home. (i didnt eat the grilled asparagus- when theres pork belly in front of you, aint nobody got time for that.)
seriously, everything has been completely perfect so far- and our waiter is awesome. queue our steaks.
mine looks amazing, but unfortunately the waiter totally forgot to put allis order in. he realizes the mistake and we all decide to just eat the sides and wait until her steak comes out to eat. no biggie, the sides are delish (but still, annoying.)
waiting also = photo shoot.
again, poorly lit. should have used my real camera! d’oh.
her steak finally comes out and its too bad we didnt switch because hers came out super rare (probably due to the rush order) and mine was more medium (i typically like mine still mooing.) despite being a little overcooked for my taste, it was still very delicious. i wish i hadnt been so full because i only could finish half!
…but of course, im never too full for dessert. ted had heard that the dessert here was awesome, so we all decided to go for it. i got the gianduja hazelnut tart (carmelized hazelnut, hazelnut praline gelato.)
this was sooooo good. definitely cleaned my plate. other orders at the table were the warm chocolate cake with black peppercorn ice cream and the pineapple gelee cheesecake with lime sorbet. both were absolutely delicious, but im biased and still liked mine the best!
oh and since the waiter totally messed up with the steak, he took off the first round of cocktails and the price of her steak from the check, great customer service! and honestly, he was an awesome waiter otherwise, we all make mistakes… cheers to a wonderful dinner! thank you ted.
oh and super exciting- when i got home, found a package for me in the hallway. our masquerade masks for the swan lake black and white masquerade on halloween were delivered! love them. glad we opted to go the feather route.
the past few days have been super busy but so much fun! i have dinner plans with teresa and kristin tonight (back to SoWa to myers & chang) and then totallyyyyyy plan on sleeping in tomorrow. (gotta rest up for fleetwood mac tomorrow night! woo!) hope everyone has a great weekend!
